Caterham Build Tips

Throughout the build I am hoping to detail tips and tricks to make building a Caterham easier.  This will be aimed at the more novice mechanic (such as me) and hopefully where possible include pictures or diagrams.

If you have a tip or trick that you feel any builders would be interested in please email me at robert_margel@hotmail.com

1. Prep Your Garage
Make sure your garage is sorted, cleaned with electricity and enough lights (see my garage)
2. Use Trestles vs axle stands
TrestlesIf you can get hold of a set of trestles rather than axle stands you can have the car at a higher level whilst you are working on it.  I borrowed these from Darren Elmslie.
3. Reduce the chance of scratches
MaskedBy removing the front bonnet springs and masking up the holes where the suspension and steering will be fitted.
4. Buy a Dremmel Multi
To reduce time and labour filing bits down to fit (Steve Newman)
5. Don't fit the wishbones on the wrong side.
schoolboy errorI managed to fit the top wishbones on the wrong side (which are the first parts to be added!) although obvious afterwards it wasn't until I fitted the uprights  that my schoolboy error was spotted.
6. Top front wishbone mount
Mistakenly I added washers to the top front wishbone fixing, this is wrong as if you do this the nyloc will not be fully attached.  Thanks to SimonP for spotting this.
7. Be prepared
Over the first 2 days I had to make 2 trips to halfords to buy 'extras' such as copper slip and silicon sealant.
